LMS Route: Nuneaton to Leamington

Ex-LMS 6P5F 2-6-0 No 42971, having just passed through Bedworth, is seen on a southbound freight service on 12th May 1964. Built as LMS No 13271 by Crewe works in January 1934, No 42971 was renumbered by the LMS in December 1935 as No 2971 and by British Railways in January 1941 as No 42971 which it retained until November 1963 when it was withdrawn from 5E Nuneaton shed to be scrapped by J Cashmores of Great Bridge. It was allocated twice to Nuneaton, in June 1962 to June 1963 and again in 1963 to withdrawal. When first allocated to Nuneaton in June 1962 the shed's code was 2B but within a short space of time as sheds throughout the network were closed survivors were renumbered by British Railways and Nuneaton was re-coded 5E.
