The level crossing gates have been closed and as the station staff are standing on the down platform and the down signals are set at danger it would seem that the train soon to arrive was a local passenger service scheduled to stop at Berkswell station. On the right the iron plating has been covered with timber planking to provide passengers and staff with a less slippery surface under foot. The station master's house is quite large and it may be that in addition to the station master and his family one or more other railway worker was also billeted in the accommodation.
