Looking towards Birmingham from the passenger footbridge showing the two sets of signals on the right

Looking towards Birmingham from the passenger footbridge showing the two sets of signals on the right on 15th April 1962. The two signals controlled the lines to Coventry and Kenilworth, the signal to Coventry being on the right and the signal to Kenilworth being on the left. The reason the authorities used two signal posts with semaphore arms on each for the inner home signals rather than a bracket signal (which would only have one post) is due to siting problems caused by the curve and the bridge which effected crews of trains travelling in the up direction. The signals need to be seen in time and therefore were raised high enough to be viewed above the bridge. However this solution meant that in poor weather and fog the signal arms could be too high to be seen from the footplate. Therefore repeater arms were fitted to the posts at almost cab level.
