Photograph showing one of the several British Railways totems which displayed the station's name. On the left is one of the lamps used to light the station. These glazed lanterns held an oil lamp which needed to be lit and extinguished at dusk and dawn each day. The responsibility of filling them with oil, trimming their wicks as well as lighting them and extinguishing them lay with the station's most junior porter.
