Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT No 45020 is seen passing Berkswell's up
home signals with an ordinary passenger train for Coventry on 15th October
1951. The lattice signal on the left is the down starting signal for Hampton in
Arden. Its interesting to note that when the LNWR signals with timber posts
were replaced (see 'lnwrberk525a') the starting
signal for Hampton had its co-acting (or repeating arm) removed whilst the up
home signals seen on the right which did not have any, had them added. Built as
LMS No 5020 by the Vulcan Foundry in August 1834, No 45020 was renumbered by
British Railways in June 1948 and remained in service until December 1965 when
it was withdrawn from 5D Stoke shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great
Bridge. At the time the photograph was taken the locomotive was allocated to 2A
Rugby shed until October 1953 when it was transferred to 8A Edge Hill shed in
Liverpool.
