LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk4114
The view, looking towards north west to Birmingham, of the
lifting of Kenilworth Junction at Berkswell in March 1969. The long siding
which had been installed with the opening of the line to Kenilworth is evident
on the left. It was retained and for many years it was used to stable the Royal
Train overnight when the Royal Family was in the West Midlands. In the distance
Berkswell Signal Cabin can be seen. Colour aspect signalling had been in
existence since electrification. It was the upgrading of signalling equipment
together with the removal of the junction which allowed the station to be
controlled from Coventry Power Box.
