LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Ex-LNWR 2P 4-4-2T Precursor Tank No 6796 is seen on a down Rugby to Birmingham local passenger service near Berkswell in May 1927. Philip Millard writes 'the photograph shows a typical mixed train formation - the first coach is ex-LYR, the second an ex-LNWR toplight corridor, the third also ex-LNWR, others probably so but unclear.' The locomotive was built at Crewe works in May 1906 to a George Whale design it remained in service until December 1931 when it was withdrawn for scrapping at Crewe works.
