LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk535
LMS 4MT 2-6-4T No 2593 on a Rugby to Birmingham local
passenger train as it passes the junction with the Kenilworth branch circa
1942. Built by the North British Locomotive Company in October 1936 it remained
in service until June 1962 when it was withdrawn from Stoke-on-Trent shed to be
scrapped in December 1962 at Crewe works. The branch to Kenilworth was
primarily an avoiding line for freight traffic and was lifted during the 1960s.
The short spur left by BR was used for many years to accommodate the Royal
Train when the Queen visited the area.
