Birmingham New Street - Southern Approaches: lnwrbhm_sa2321

Looking towards Aston from just north of Lawley Street bridge on the Vauxhall viaduct on 5th August 1951. The signal bridge is still equipped with lower quadrant LNWR signals with three posts on the left for down traffic and on the right for up traffic. The lines ahead are 'additional down goods line', 'down goods line' and up goods line. The signals were not just controlling the lines ahead but also the crossovers in both direction. The viaduct parapet has been removed on the left at the base of the signal bridge in preparation of a new bridge being installed with LMS upper quadrant signals (see image 'lnwrbhm_sa2322').
