British Railways Standard Class 7 4-6-2 Britannia class No
70031 'Byron' is blowing off steam at the head of the 12 45pm from Manchester
London Road station on 20th April 1955. On the left standing at Platform 4 is
an ex-LMS 2-6-4T with what is thought to be a local stopping service to Four
Oaks. Built by Crewe works in November 1952 No 70031 was to remain in service
for exactly fifteen years being withdrawn on November 1967 from Kingmoor shed
in Carlisle to be scrapped in March 1968 by J McWilliam & Sons of
Shettleston.
