BR Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_br1815
Ex-LMS 6P 4-6-0 No 45532 'Illustrious' is seen wearing 1946
LMS black lined livery as it stands at Platform 5 on a Wolverhampton express on
11th September 1948. The locomotive had only been rebuilt in July and as the
new British Railway's livery of 'Brunswick Green' had yet to be confirmed Crewe
followed the logical act of applying the former LMS' livery. Another 'paper'
rebuild of a LNWR Claughton No 45532 was originally rebuilt at Crewe in April
1933 and was to have a relatively long life for this class by lasting in
service until February 1964 when it was withdrawn from Upperby shed in Carlisle
to be scrapped in January 1965 by GH Campbell of Airdrie.
