BR Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_br1824
Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45721 'Impregnable' is
seen raising steam ready to take forward an up express to Euston circa 1953.
The dirty smoke from the chimney would be frowned upon by the railway
authorities who were very sensitive to complaints about the soot and smoke that
pervaded the air in areas where steam locomotives worked. Built at Crewe works
in August 1936 No 45721 was to remain in service until October 1965 when it was
withdrawn from Bank Hall shed in Liverpool to be scrapped in March 1966 by J
Cashmore of Great Bridge.
