Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45651 'Shovell' is seen arriving at Platform 10 on the South bound Devonian express service

Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45651 'Shovell' is seen arriving at Platform 10 on the South bound Devonian express service. Standing on the short siding between Platforms 8 and 9 and in front of Signal Box No 2 is ex-Midland Railway 3F No 43687 resting between duties as pilot in the Midland section of New Street. Built at Crewe works in January 1935 No 45651 was to remain in service until November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed to be scrapped in December 1962 by Crewe works. The pilot engine, No 43687, was built by Neilson Reid and Company in April 1901 and it remained in service up to August 1962 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed to be scrapped in May 1963 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
