Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45651 'Shovell' is seen standing at Platform 9 with the 12 52pm York to Bristol express on 5th July 1958. Standing on the middle road is ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44553 which is probably on pilot duties within the 'Midland' portion of New Street station. Built at Crewe works in January 1935 No 45651 remained in service until November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Shrewsbury shed to be scrapped in December 1962 by Crewe works. Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44553 was built at Crewe works in December 1928 and was to remain in service until October 1962 when it was withdrawn from Dallam shed in Warrington to be scrapped in November 1962 by Horwich works.
