Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45604 'Ceylon' blows off hard as it stands at Platform 7 on the up Pines Express on Saturday 16th December 1961. A Saltley locomotive No 45604 had just reversed back on to the train and the fireman is now walking forward to change the headlamps from a Class 'G' light engine code to a Class 'A' express passenger code. British Railways Type 4 1Co-Co1 Diesel 'D120' had just worked in the Pines Express service and would now wait to work back a balancing service to the West Country.

Built by the North British Locomotive Company in March 1935 No 45604 remained in service until July 1965 when it was officially withdrawn from Newton Heath shed in Manchester to be scrapped in October 1965 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge after being in store at Barrow Hill in Staveley since January 1963. The Type 4 Diesel Locomotive D120, later to be classified under 'TOPS' as a Class 45 45108, was luckier being withdrawn on 4th August 1987 to be preserved by the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley.
