BR Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_br1996
A Craven 3 Car Diesel Multiple Unit Set is seen standing at
Platform 7 with the 8:15pm New Street to Leicester local stopping service on
Saturday 4th March 1961. The DMU's were integrally-constructed steel vehicles
with a side profile identical to British Railways Mark 1 carriage stock, using
the same doors and windows which Craven also built. Later classified by British
Railways as either Class 105 or 106, the type of engine unit differentiated the
two classes, a total 302 examples were built by Cravens Ltd of Sheffield from
1956 to 1959. The last passenger car was withdrawn from service in 1988.
