British Railways built 5MT 4-6-0 No 44740 is seen running tender first through New Street station with an up freight service in 1958. Due to high passenger loadings through New Street station freight services were very rarely seen at New Street so there must have been a special reason for the working. Built by Crewe works in May 1948, No 44740 was to remain in service until April 1963 when it was withdrawn for scrapping.
