British Railways 1Co-Co1 Type 4 Diesel Locomotive D289 is seen at the North end of platform 5 in March 1961. Later classified under TOPS as a Class 40 D289 was built by English Electric's Vulcan Foundry in August 1960 and was to remain in service as 40089 until July 1976 when it was withdrawn from HA Haymarket MPD being cut up by Crewe works.
