Ex-LMS 5MT 4-6-0 No 44964 is seen wreathed in steam on a very wet cold Spring day leaving the West end of Platform 9 at the head of the 12 42pm Pines Express for Bournemouth on 19th March 1954. Built at Crewe works in July 1946 No 44964 was to remain in service until an accident with 4-6-9 No 44933 and 2-8-0 No 48279 forced its withdrawal in October 1967 from Edge Hill shed in Liverpool to be scrapped in March 1968 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
