Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Patriot class No 45506 The Royal Pioneer
Corps' is seen departing the West end of Platform 6 at the head of a
Wolverhampton express on 7th June 1952. Notionally rebuilt from a LNWR
Claughton class locomotive by Crewe works in July 1932, No 45506 was named in
recognition of the Corp's work during the Second World War at a ceremony at
Euston in September 1948. As with many LMS 4-6-0 express locomotives No 45506's
principal duties were taken over in the early 1960s by diesels and it was
withdrawn in February 1962 from Barrow shed in Bristol to be scrapped in March
1962 by Crewe works.
