Ex-LNWR 2F 0-6-2T 'Coal Tank' No 58928, on pilot duties, and ex-LMS 4MT 2-6-4T No 42267 are seen entering Platform 5 having passed under Navigation Street bridge on Friday the 16th June 1950. Built as LNWR No 1068 by Crewe works in September 1888 No 58929 was at the time of the photograph six months from being retired as it was withdrawn in January 1951 from Monument Lane shed to be scrapped immediately by Crewe works. The Fairburn 2-6-4T was however fairly new being built as LMS No 2267 by Derby works in January 1947 and it would survive in service until May 1967 when it was withdrawn from Wakefield shed to be scrapped in April 1968 by G Cohen of Kettering.
