Ex-LMS 5MT 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No 45399 is on a London working whilst ex-LMS 'Stanier' 3P 2-6-2T No 40108 is seen on pilot duties at New Street circa 1957. Built as LMS No 5399 by Armstrong Whitworth in August 1937, No 45399 was numbered thus by British Railways in October 1950 which it retained until December 1966 when it was withdrawn from 24L Carnforth Shed to be scrapped. The Stanier 3P pilot was built as LMS No 108 by Derby works in July 1935 and received its British railways number in December 1949 which it kept until November 1961 when it was withdrawn from 21E Monument Lane to be scrapped by J Cashmores of Great Bridge.
