British Railways built 4MT 2-6-0 'Ivatt' No 43017 is seen marshalling at the north end of New Street station circa 1958. The wagon carrying the two tanks immediately behind the locomotive is believed to be a 1930 built (utilising a redundant former LNWR 6-wheel coach underframe) LMS D1826 Travelling Gas Holder truck. The Travelling Gas Holder truck was used for carrying pressurised gas, originally to supply gas-lit passenger coaches, and in later years restaurant or buffet cars which used gas for cooking. Built to an LMS design, No 43017 was built in May 1948 by Horwich works and was to remain in service until December 1967 when it was withdrawn from 12D Workington shed.
