New Street station

Ex-LMS 2-6-4T 4MT No 42579 passes New Street No 1 Signal Cabin as it enters the station with a local passenger service circa 1958. Built as LMS No 2579 by the North British Locomotive Company in September 1936, it was renumbered by British Railways as No 42579 in February 1949 which it retained until June 1962 when it was withdrawn from 6H Bangor shed although for admin purposes it was transferred and retired on paper from 33C Shoeburyness shed. At the time the photograph was taken it was allocated to 3E Monument Lane shed.
