An unidentified ex-GWR Fruit D Van stands on the middle road at Birmingham New Street circa 1960. Paul Bartlett writes, the GWR introduced a new design in 1939 that they branded the Fruit D. British Railways built further batches until 1958 which were both in the original GWR number series and in the British Railways number series. The branding ‘Passenger’ indicated their suitability to work in passenger trains.
