New Street station
Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_br4337
Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5XP Jubilee Class No 45576 'Bombay' arrives at
platform 7 with the up (northbound) 'Devonian' express. Built in September 1934
as LMS No 5576 by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow, the
locomotive was renumbered by British Railways in June 1948, the number being
carried until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from 41A Darnall shed in
Sheffield. At the time this photograph was taken the locomotive was allocated
to 41C Millhouses shed in Sheffield. The up 'Devonian' express service ran from
Paignton to Bradford's Forster Square, via Bristol Temple Meads, Birmingham,
Sheffield and Leeds. The down Devonian service ran in the opposite direction
commencing at Bradford's Foster Square and termination at Paignton.
