Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_br4338
Ex-LMS 4P 2-6-4T No 42389 is seen on pilot duties adjacent
to New Street's No 1 Signal Cabin whilst shunting empty carriage stock between
platforms 3 and 4, circa 1959. The Fowler designed locomotive was at the time
allocated to 5C Stafford shed so it had probably been 'borrowed' for other
duties before returning on a local service to Stafford. Built as LMS No 2389 by
Derby works in June 1933, No 423489 was numbered as such by British Railways in
August 1948 which it carried until March 1963 when it was withdrawn from 8C
Speke Junction shed.
