Ex-LNWR 3P 4-4-0 Precursor class No 25188 'Marquis' is seen standing on the centre road between Platforms 1 and 2 whilst waiting for its coaching stock to arrive on 20th July 1935. Built by Crewe works as LNWR No 412 'Alfred Paget' in June 1904 it was renumbered in April 1926 by the LMS as No 5188 and again as No 25188 in November 1934 to make way for Stanier's new Class 5 locomotives. With this number it was to remain in service for nearly another five years being withdrawn from service in April 1940 for scrapping in May 1940 by Crewe works.
