LMS Period Locomotives: lnwrbns_lms507
LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 5556 is seen at night
wreathed in steam whist standing at the West end of Platform 2 at the head of a
Wolverhampton service circa 1935. During the early years of the building of the
Jubilee class the naming of the locomotives was a slow process and this did not
acquire the name 'Nova Scotia' until 8th March 1937, some two years after this
photograph was taken. Built at Crewe works in June 1934 No 5556 remained in
service until September 1964 when it was withdrawn from Crewe North shed to be
scrapped in January 1965 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
