Midland Railway 2P 4-4-0 No 527 is seen with its tender fitted for oil firing whilst standing buffered up to the stops at the East end of Platform 5 adjacent to New Street No 2 Signal Box. The oil tanks fitted on the tender have been formed by strapping five small tanks together onto a jig which can then be lifted on or off as one unit. MR No 527 has been turned ready to run through to Platform 5 where it will take forward a local passenger train to Kings Norton via the Cap Hill line.
