Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1786
View of the passenger footbridge as it crosses over Queens
Drive looking towards Platforms 7 to 11 in the Midland section of New Street
station. The bridge was built as part of the 1885 extension and the canopy
built between the two halves of the station. The glass canopy above the
footbridge was damaged during the Second World War at the same time as the
former LNWR portion of the station and it too was subject to post-war
rebuilding. This involved the same design of steel beams providing a very
utilitarian and ugly flat roof structure which can be seen in image 'lnwrbns_str1839' showing the outside of the
bridge during demolition.
