Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1854
An elevated view of the canopy at the entrance to the new
extension which provided protection to both passengers and parcel traffic
arriving via Station Street. The brick building is the three storey structure
seen on the newly completed extension's Platform 6 (see image
'lnwrbns_str1870') which housed passenger facilities on the ground floor, and
offices on the other two floors. The passenger footbridge continued through the
building and is seen covered by the raised glazed section continuing towards
Station Street. Behind the building are the two curved roofs of the extension
which are dominated at the rear by the original LNWR roof. In the foreground
the glazed roof covered the fish, milk, horse and carriage sidings and
yards.
