Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1868a

Close up showing both Platform 6 on the left and Platform 5 with a rake of Midland Railway coaching stock standing on the central storage road

Close up of image 'lnwrbns_str1868' showing both Platform 6 on the left and Platform 5 with a rake of Midland Railway coaching stock standing on the central storage road. On Platform 5 behind the group of five men are a series of oblong shapes made up of glass blocks used to provide lighting to the subway beneath which ran across the full width of the station, with another subway at the opposite at end of the station. The open top brick built building at the base of the two columns has a water tank suspended over the far end confirming that it is the gentlemen's latrines. Behind the ramp which is protected by ornate ironwork is another brick built building which housed the cashiers office and the Midland Railway's agents office.
