A view of Stephenson Place looking from from New Street with the Queen's Hotel seen to the right of the impressive Exchange Building. The Exchange Building, designed by Edward Holmes and built with honey-coloured Hollington stone and with a clock tower 100 feet tall, was erected in 1865. The East wing of Livelock's Queen's Hotel is to the right of the Exchange Building and was much simpler in design. Outside the gated entrance to the hotel and station entrance are hansom cabs waiting for fares. The statue is of Thomas Attwood erected in 1859 whilst the building site attracting much attention was the site of the Birmingham and Midland Bank with the Midland Hotel (now the Burlington Hotel) just out of view on the right. The Grammar School can just be seen beyond the Exchange Building. C1867
