Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1903
Looking along Hill Street towards the junction with
Navigation Street whilst on the right beyond the tram stop is the entrance to
Queens Drive in October 1949. Both of the trams, Route 37 on the left and Route
39 standing at the tram stop, travelled from the southern outskirts of
Birmingham to the station. There are three tram lines seen in the photograph
because the tram on route 39 is standing in a passing loop which allowed
passengers to embark or disembark without delaying other trams. Whilst damage
from the blitz caused the abandonment of tram services in other towns such as
Coventry, Birmingham's tram services remained in operation until 1953.
