Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str1907
View looking West of the final stages of the demolition of
the original 1854 station with the Queen's Hotel on the right still towering
over the station. The hotel was also to succumb to the demolition ball as part
of the 1960s rebuilding of New Street. The wagons are standing on what remains
of the track work to Platform 1 and 3 whilst the temporary footbridge denotes
the location of the former footbridge and its juxtaposition to the hotel. To
the left Platforms 4 and 5 are now largely complete whilst above the great slab
of concrete that was to entomb the station and form the floor of the concourse
and other station facilities is now nearly complete. 22nd February 1966
