The closure of one of the station's cafeteria, bar and waiting room is recorded in this 1965 photograph. Donald Smith in his book 'New Street Remembered' states that in the early 1920s a passenger could purchase at one of the station's restaurants or refreshment rooms a nourishing meal three-course meal served by waiting staff for just a few shillings never more than a Half Crown (12½p).
