Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str2941a
Close up of image 'lnwrbns_str2941' showing the eastern end
of the 1854 station with the Queens Hotel fronting on to Stephenson Place. The
public right of way was guaranteed by the erection of a pedestrian footbridge
which ran from the Queens Hotel to Great Queens Street. It has been claimed
that the original pedestrian footbridge was both higher in elevation and
narrower. The sides of both bridge and steps, down to the platforms, were of
cast-iron lattice or strap work with iron treads, based on an iron framework
but with bronze hand rails.
