Looking down Hill Street with New Street's 'Midland' train sheds on the left and John Bright Street to the right and rear of the photographer. The blackened, but still impressive, west end of the Midland side trainshed looms over the station wall providing an unusual view of its construction. The prominent handrail on top of the roof is a reminder that constant cleaning and maintenance work was necessary in order to keep such a roof both safe and presentable, a particularly thankless task in this location one would imagine.
