Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str409
View of Platforms 4 and 5 looking towards the East of the
station with a Midland Railway up train comprised of a variety of coaching
stock standing in the station. On the extreme right is New Street No 4 Signal
Box which controlled the standard LNWR signals installed on both platforms and
the points inside the station. This signal box carried out the same function as
the signal cabin suspended over the footbridge in the original station as
signalmen in the outside boxes could not see within the confines of the
station. 12th October 1903
