LMS Route: Birmingham to Wolverhampton
Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str415
View of one of the hand-operated roller departure timetable
blinds introduced by the LMS being changed at New Street station. The platforms
are still numbered 1 to 6 on the departure blind as the more logical system of
numbering platform faces was not introduced until the end of 1946. For those
old enough to remember, these pre-electronic departure roller blinds are nearly
as evocative as the sight of trains being hauled by steam engines. The step
ladder obscures a newspaper headline stating 'Mr Eden's Warning to
Nation'.
The times shown include: the 6 39 Stations to Worcester
except Kings Heath from Platform 5; the 6 40 Stations to
Wolverhampton from Platform 2; the 6 50 to Tamworth, Burton and
Derby from Platform 5; the 6 58 to Adderley Park, Stetchford, Hampton in
Arden and Coventry from Platform 1; the 7 10 to Five Ways, Selly Oak,
Bournville and Lifford from Platform 6 and the 7 10 to Stechford,
Berkswell, Tile Hill and Coventry from Platform 1 to name but a few. 1st
