Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str432
View looking from one of the Queens Hotel's windows above
the passenger footbridge looking towards the station building on Platform 3.
Whilst the passenger footbridge was needed to handle the large volume of
passengers embarking or disembarking at New Street station, its original
purpose was to maintain an ancient 'right of way' that crossed the station
site. In 1874 the passenger footbridge seen above replaced the original which
was also much narrower and had neither the No 3 Signal cabin suspended on top
nor the ornate arches at the top of the steps.
