LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Ex-LMS 5XP 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45734 'Meteor' roars through the station on the down 'Midlander' express service on 26th April 1954. The booking office can be seen on the right as is the entrance to the platform from the road. There wasn't a conventional timber barrow crossing at Canley perhaps because it was built for factory workers at the nearby Standard Motor Company and also because if required for the odd occasion, the level crossing could be used. Built at Crewe works in November 1936 No 45734 ran in service until December 1963 when it was withdrawn from Kingmoor shed in Carlisle for scrapping at Crewe works in April 1964.
