The contractor's standard gauge 0-6-0 Hunslet locomotive 'Uxbridge' is posed for the camera between shifts. The locomotive is fitted with 'dumb' buffers fixed to the buffer beam and is protected from running away by two baulks of timbers laid across the rails at each end of the locomotive. Peter lee believes the locomotive is HE761 of 1902, so named because it was used as a contractor's locomotive on the Harrow & Uxbridge Railway. After completing the Coventry Loop Line the locomotive was sold in 1917 to the Aluminium Company where it remained until it was scrapped in 1952.
