Ex-LMS 4MT 2-6-0 Mogul No 43002 draws coaching stock from the
carriage sidings that lay opposite the shed into the down platform. Built as
LMS No 3002 at Horwich works in December 1947, the month before the LMS and the
other members of the 'Big Four' railway companies were nationalised to form
British Railways, No 43002 remained in service until December 1967 when it was
withdrawn from Workington shed to be scrapped during April 1968 by GH Campbell
of Airdrie.
