Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Jubilee class No 45741 'Leinster' stands at platform two with a down express train circa 1956. Between 1934 and 1936, the London Midland & Scottish Railway introduced 191 new 4-6-0 passenger locomotives, to work express trains on routes such as the former Midland line from St. Pancras. Although they did not attain the prominence of some of the more powerful express locos, they were hard-working and could be found through-out the LMS area. They were designed by William Stanier (later Sir William), and although they had problems with poor steaming at first, they lasted into the 1960's, being withdrawn as a result of British Railway's modernisation plans.
