Ex-LMS 4-6-0 rebuilt Patriot class No 45540 'Sir Robert Turnball' is seen resplendent in British Railways experimental Apple Green livery at the head of a down express service. Originally classified as a rebuild of a LNWR Claughton by Crewe works August 1933 it was again rebuilt with new cylinders, tapered boiler and cab in November 1947 and remained in service until May 1963 when it was withdrawn from Upperby shed at Carlisle to be scrapped during July 1963 at Crewe works.
