Coventry Station - LMS Locomotives: lnwrcov286
LMS 4-6-0 5XP Patriot class No 5516 'The Bedfordshire and
Hertfordshire Regiment' is seen standing coupled to an unidentified ex-LNWR
tank locomotive on the down through road on the 31st July 1938. Built
originally as LNWR Claughton class No 103 at Crewe works in April 1920 it was
given its LMS No 5982 in June 1927 and then in October 1932 it was rebuilt by
Crewe works as a Patriot class locomotive. When rebuilt it given the new LMS No
5516 but did not receive its name until July 1938 and remained in service until
September 1961 when it was withdrawn from Dallam shed in Warrington to be
scrapped immediately by Crewe works.
