Coventry Station: lnwrcov4512
Part of Coventry Station's goods yard looking towards the
City Centre with Warwick Road on the right circa 1880. Note the roadway and its
fence on the left are bending in towards the photographer showing that yard was
initially small in area. As seen in the LNWR plan 'lnwrcov4487' the goods shed was to the left out of
view in this photograph. Up to the late 19th century, Coventry's economy didn't
warrant a larger facility. A fixed position hand operated crane of 3 or 5 ton
capacity was sufficient for lifting loads. Two cattle pens was also sufficient
for receiving livestock for the abbatoir.
