Close up of image 'lnwrcov554' showing the LNWR engine shed
which lay between the junction to Leamington and Quinton Road. The twin roof of
the shed is clearly visibile whilst in the carriage sidings a rake of four LNWR
coaches in their plum and spilt milk livery are evident. Steve Banks
writes, 'The term plum and spilt milk when applied to the livery of LNWR
coaches, was actually a deep brown/purple shade and French grey, the latter
often misinterpreted as a pale, milky grey when in fact it had a hint of green
(ultramarine was added to the white, which in those days was a lead-based, more
creamy colour than we are used to seeing today) - see the preserved coach at
the NRM which has it dead right.'
